Prospect Heights High. . .
by Paula on 4/12/10 | 0 Comment(s)
There’s nothing like record breaking heat in early April to get you excited about summer. . . longer days, sandals, ice cream, etc. etc. And Prospect Heights has many fine summertime offerings – both with and without air conditioning. Admit it, you were complaining about the heat just a little bit this past week weren’t [...]
Date Night with the Kids
by Tonya on 4/12/10 | 2 Comment(s)
Even in family-centric Park Slope it’s difficult sometimes to find a NICE place to eat where kids are allowed and – gasp – even welcomed! I found it folks: Barrio at 210 7th Avenue! Sure, it didn’t open yesterday. But it’s both a place where you could go for an evening out (sans kiddos), or, [...]

Where’s the Water?
by Betsy on 4/08/10 | 1 Comment(s)
Although it seems like our mini-heat-wave will be over soon, it’s left a lot of parents asking when the water will be turned on at the local parks. I am happy to report that the water fountains at Greene Playground (Near PS 11 on Greene Ave between Waverly and Washington in Clinton Hill) and Edmonds [...]

So, this weekend the hot summer will knock off for a bit. Saturday is scheduled to be sunny and in the low 60’s and Sunday with some showers in the mid-60’s. I’m just saying……that way you can plan your weekend a little better. To help in that too, I have included my favorite event picks [...]
What are some “true” organic dairy products?
by Karen on 4/08/10 | 6 Comment(s)
Our book club just finished reading “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan. It touched off a lot of debate about what is truly “organic” and what isn’t. I wanted to learn more. One of my favorite “green” sites, A Fresh Squeeze, recommended The Cornucopia Institute for solid information on this topic. The Cornucopia Institute is [...]

Bad news today about the new Brooklyn Bridge Park’s play equipment. Minutes ago, the NY Post reported that the metallic domes installed there are burning children. Some park-goers took the temperature of the orbs and discovered the temperature of them was an astounding 127.9 degrees. For the full story, go here.

Today I was finally able to check out Premier Pediatrics’ new location at 104-110 4th Avenue at Warren Street in Park Slope. They have been in there for only a week, so there is still some paper on the doors, but they were in full swing when I got there. With 2 waiting rooms (slotted [...]
Where to take soccer classes in Brooklyn- spring and summer
by Jimmy on 4/06/10 | 0 Comment(s)
During the 2002 World Cup, I worked for a tiny company in the basement of my boss’ home in Park Slope. I had two companions working there: a Russian cook and a Honduran cleaning lady, both 20 years my senior. On a couple of those World Cup mornings, work would temporarily stop and the three [...]
My favorite art class in Brooklyn
by Tonya on 4/06/10 | 0 Comment(s)
Having an art background, I’ve taken my son to many an art class. If there’s a place that offers a chance for my child to get covered in paint, sticky with glue or caked with clay, we’ve been there. Usually we have a great time but I wouldn’t classify any of them as revelatory or [...]

Cobble Hill/Downtown Brooklyn is getting a new high-end retail resident. Barneys Co-Op announced this week that they will be moving in at 194 Atlantic Ave, near Urban Outfitters and just a skip-hop from Trader Joe’s. If you don’t know what Barney’s Co-Op is, it’s a little less expensive than the regular Barney’s. And, I mean [...]
